Azerbaijan: hydrocarbons and dictatorship

Azerbaijan, a strategic country in the Caucasus, is at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Rich in its hydrocarbons and its geographical positioning, it has established itself as an important regional player by developing partnerships with Turkey, Russia, Israel and the EU. It is also an authoritarian regime dominated by the Aliyev dynasty for more than thirty years.
