16th May 2001: Uefa Cup Final: Liverpool v Alaves

Coverage of the Uefa Cup final from Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion in Germany. Liverpool will start favourites as they bid to lift this trophy for the third time, but their Spanish opponents should not be underestimated. The most familiar name in the Alaves squad will be attacking midfielder Jordi Cruyff , formerly of Manchester United. Other players to watch out for include striker Javi Moreno , Argentinian midfielder Hermes Desio and goalkeeper Martin Herrera , who last season conceded fewer goals than any other custodian in Spain's Primera Liga. Liverpool's success has been based on rotating a star studded squad. Strikers Michael Owen , Emile Heskey and Robbie Fowler are supported by a fluent midfield and a strong defence built around robust Finn Sami Hyypia. Boss Gerard Houllier will be expecting much of young midfield star Steven Gerrard and inspirational veteran Gary McAllister.
