I revisited Little Nicky some 20 years later in hopes to discover this would be a misunderstood gem. It’s probably a shock that it is not. There’s some redeeming elements, including some wild casting and an ambitious scale that is fun to see on screen, but mostly this does not work. Any pathos Sandler can bring to Nicky is buried deep under that sweaty voice and winced face, which might work in a short sketch but is tough to endure for an entire feature. Feels like this team was also too confident in the visual effects, which aren’t all that charming and pretty much just look bad. 😈😈.5 / 😈😈😈😈😈.
