After leaving prison and trying to stay sober, a down-on-his-luck street musician scrapes by and forms an unlikely bond with a struggling woman and an eccentric older neighbor. Hoping for a fresh start, the trio leaves Germany for rural Wisconsin, chasing the promise of a better life while facing poverty, isolation, and the everyday absurdities that follow them.
