In 1969, a student from Beijing is sent to live among nomadic herdsmen in Inner Mongolia, caught between encroaching civilization and long-running conflict with marauding wolves. As boundaries shift and survival gets harder for everyone, both people and animals struggle to find their place on the grassland.
