The miniseries follows two time periods connected by a marine timepiece: in the 18th century, a carpenter painstakingly builds a solution for safe sea navigation, and in the 20th century, a later man becomes obsessed with restoring the long-lost devices. Their separate quests are interwoven as the series shifts back and forth.
