It's Sunday, February 16, 2025, I'm Carson Fowler, and in this edition of our newsletter:
ENTERTAINMENT
It's a great week for your favorite shows on streaming. Let's hope, at least, a few of you have work off for president's day!
Here are a few airing this week:
And, if these aren't what you're looking for, check our most recent 'Top Charts' playlist on Streamline!
White Lotus is BACK. The award-winning HBO series returns for what cast members are calling 'pure drunk chaos'. The third season is set in Thailand at a luxury resort in Thailand, near Bangkok. Fans can follow the drama on HBO's streaming service, 'Max', with new episodes airing every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET until April 6, 2025.
And, the wait is OVER. Next Sunday, after three years of production, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren return to your screen in season 2 of 1923. Nominated for 22 awards, this is a must-watch — the first season is only eight episodes, making it a quick binge if you need to catch up. Stream the gripping Western drama, and Yellowstone prequel, exclusively on Paramount+, with new episodes available every Sunday through April 13, 2025.
Severance — Season 2: We’re exactly halfway through the second season of Severance, with five more episodes to go. Critics are saying the drama-thriller 'hasn’t lost a single step' since its debut in early 2022. Don't miss the next episode, 'Atilla', coming to Apple TV+ on Friday.
Invincible — Season 3: Four episodes into Invincible season 3, and again, Robert Kirkman has out done himself. This is one of my personal favorites, I started it earlier this year, and have already caught up to the latest episode of season 3. And, spoiler alert, its awesome. We’re already past the halfway point, with the fifth episode coming to Prime Video on Thursday.
Prime Target: Apple TV's 'Prime Target' has just one more episode left in its short six-episode run. Stream the final episode of the math-spy-thriller (yeah that's what I'm calling it) this Wednesday on Apple TV+.
The Pitt: If you like medical dramas, this is the show for you. Like the American drama series '24', each episode of 'The Pitt' covers one hour of a single 15-hour emergency department shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. And, if you haven't started yet, there's still a lot of watching to be done in this series — with eight episodes left, and another dropping this Wednesday on Max.
SNL 50 SPECIAL
I can't say I came up with this line, but it had to make its way into our newsletter. The Associated Press certainly hit the nail on the head when it wrote, 'The 50th anniversary celebration of “Saturday Night Live” is so big, it’s not even on Saturday!'
Chills, right? The anniversary special will feature appearances by numerous former cast members and celebrities, including Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Amy Poehler, Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Adam Driver, Miley Cyrus, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johansson. With musical performances from Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus, and The Roots.
You can watch the THREE-HOUR special edition of SNL live on NBC, or you can stream it on Peacock tonight from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET.
SPORTS
This year the NHL decided to temporarily replace its All-Star Game with, what it's calling, the '4 Nations Face-Off'. An international ice hockey tournament, organized by the NHL, featuring the most elite NHL players representing Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
And, if you've been on social media, or had the time to sit down and watch it, oh my god has it been awesome. I think the NHL may have figured out the solution to the problem with professional all-star games.
It's certainly caught ESPN's Fields Yates' attention.
Team USA defeated Canada 3-1 on Saturday, and earned a spot in the 4 Nations championship on Thursday, February 20th. But before that, catch their game against Sweden tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET.
Hockey fans, and sports fan in general (like me), can watch the 4 Nations Face-Off on ESPN+, FuboTV, Sling, Hulu with Live TV, and Max.
On Saturday, the Division I Men’s Basketball Committee unveiled its top 16 teams on the Bracket Preview Show (CBS). With Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Alabama currently slated to be the four number-one seeds.
North Carolina's Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham sat in on the show, and was asked to announce the third number-one seed... which little did he know would be his school's rival, DUKE.
The men's bracket will be unveiled on March 16th, 2025, on CBS, with the women's bracket being rolled out on ESPN the same day. You can stream the men's selection show on ParamountPlus.com and the Paramount+ app. The women's show will be available to stream on the ESPN app and ESPN+.
