Emmerdale

Marian catches up with happenings in Beckindale, and finds herself the subject of speculation.

Henry receives permission to make the shop into a post office. Marian informs Henry that she's only back for a flying visit.

Sam is sad to learn Wally might die in hospital. Meanwhile, Annie receives a letter from Jean. Also, Jim makes clear that he holds James responsible for the breakdown of Kathy and Kenny's marriage.

Sam goes to visit Wally and finds he is in a bad way. Meanwhile, Henry is flustered when an accountant and a bank manager pay him a visit.

Jim goes on the warpath to try and find James, whilst Marian finds herself unable to defend Henry when Norah tells her Henry spends too much time on business and not enough on people.

Sam is emotional after discovering Wally had died and is infuriated to discover Annie has been receiving letters from Jean. Meanwhile, Amos is concerned about Henry and wonders if he's in a financial crisis.

The Sugdens have a problem with Jim when their sheep escape into his field, and Jim impounds them. Meanwhile, Annie goes behind Sam's back and tries to see if Liz can help Jean.

Liz informs Annie that Jean is ill and Rosemary has been looking after her. When Annie sends Jean money, Sam believes she has been taken for a fool. However, Annie later gets a phone call from Rosemary informing Annie that Jean has collapsed.

Freda, caught in the middle of the feud between Jim and the Sugdens, apologises to Annie and extends an olive branch. Meanwhile, Amos's lie pushes Norah over the edge and she quits her job.

Wally's funeral is held, and the Sugdens accompany Sam to the funeral. Meanwhile, following Norah quitting her job, Amos is forced to run the shop.

Matt purchases a car from Ben. Meanwhile, Amos panics when he sees Norah, and she later accuses him of spying on her.

Joe gets a letter from Christine's solicitor regarding their divorce settlement. Meanwhile, Henry passes through the village and gets his ears bent about future plans by Amos and Norah.

Norah has had enough and leaves the village once in for all, giving Lena the key for the shop. Henry gets a shock when he returns to also get a frosty reception from Amos and Joe.

Rosemary arrives to stay with the Sugdens as Jean is admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, Tom advises Joe to get a solicitor about divorcing Christine.

Rosemary hasn't slept all night, worried for Jean Kendall, and later slips out of the house. Meanwhile, Sam rounds up the villagers to elect a new church warden, and Annie is suspicious after seeing Tom and Joe talking in private.

Matt and Joe find Rosemary Kendall in the Emmerdale Farm fields, and Rosemary opens up to Annie about her late father. Meanwhile, Sam is appalled to discover there may be no replacement church warden, while Henry prepares to add a post office to the shop.

Sam becomes over-protective of Rosemary; he orders her home when he sees her with Amos, and expresses his disapproval when James invites her to a concert in Leeds. Meanwhile, Henry holds Amos responsible for Norah quitting her job.

Henry snaps and gives Amos a piece of his mind. He tells Amos and Joe that he will hold them accountable for their actions. Meanwhile, Sam is desperate on seeing James out, making Rosemary feel guilty.

Sam is determined to ensure Rosemary and James aren't left alone together. Meanwhile, Henry and Amos consider new changes for The Woolpack.

Lena discovers George and Yates have disappeared from the village, whilst Sam continues to try break Rosemary and James's friendship.

The Sugdens celebrate Rosemary's birthday, whilst Henry, Matt and Joe discover cracks in The Mill, leaving it unsafe.

Kathy returns to the village and meets with James. Meanwhile, Joe upsets Rosemary by telling her that she will raise a calf and sell it for beef.

Rosemary begins to learn the meaning of farm life; Kathy Gimbel makes a surprise visit.

Sam hints that there is something between Kathy and James. Annie is annoyed at Sam gossiping and decides to put him straight on the matter. She says James gave Kathy a lift them dropped her off at Holly Farm where Kathy stayed for the rest of the night. Annie then goes to visit Freda.

Annie becomes concerned at Sam's determination to be elected Church Warden.

Rosemary takes a decision about visiting her mother. Amos makes up his own mind about Henry.

Rosemary talks about her parents, and Reverend Ruskin visits Annie. Henry gets The Mill surveyed by Grant. They are being watched by Sam who is curious as to why Henry is interested in the old mill. Annie invites Jim and Kathy round for tea. The village wonders whether Henry is interested in Miffield Hall. Emmerdale Farm has a leaky window in the attic. Sam blames former villager Dryden Hogben for not doing it right before he left the village last year.

Rosemary plans a surprise - but there's an embarrassing outcome. Jim cuts his hand and Joe tends to it. Amos realises he may have badly misjudged Henry's intentions over Miffield Hall.

Rosemary learns more about her mother. George has put his land up for sale. Reverend Ruskin asks to speak to Sam. Sam's hopes about being elected churchwarden are dashed when Edward asks him who he thinks would be best elected as churchwarden, someone who is younger. Sam is disappointed at not being elected.

Rosemary makes an apology. Rumour gets round that James is installing a bathroom into the cottage he rents. James says he has actually bought the cottage so will be staying in Beckindale. The election for the People's Warden is held. Reverend Ruskin has some news of his own. He is being transferred to another parish in the area. He says he will keep in touch with Beckindale residents. Sam has been nominated as churchwarden but turns the vote down. It is between Annie and Cyril Bush. Cyril withdraws, so Annie is elected as the new churchwarden. Ruskin then declares the meeting closed.

It's lambing time, but with Annie now elected Church Warden there is a shortage of hands at Emmerdale Farm. While Annie's gone down to the village to talk to the vicar she's left Rosemary in charge of dinner. Sam's not impressed at first when she's making baked ham instead of boiled.

Matt wants to go search for Annie, but Henry offers to go instead. Rosemary's baked ham is a great success, even with Sam. While looking for Annie Henry twists his ankle opening a gate. Kathy comes to The Woolpack to get some sherry. She wants to make a trifle for her father's birthday. She talks to Amos about Reverend Ruskin leaving, and Amos suddenly realizes that Liz will be leaving too, and wonders if Henry has thought about the consequences for the shop.

Rosemary thinks a relationship is developing between Joe and Kathy. Ernie Shuttleworth, the landlord of The Malt Shovel, the village's rival pub appears at The Woolpack. Ernie says a few racy things about women and suggests that The Woolpack has a jukebox.

Annie tells Henry the reason for her mysterious visit to Hotten.

Annie finds herself becoming involved in the quarrels of Holly Farm. Jim is suspicious of Kathy and Joe.

Joe finds his helping hand unwelcome and Rosemary complicates matters by drinking with Martin. Jim comes into The Woolpack and sees Martin with Rosemary. Jim demands that Martin comes home now. Martin refuses. Jim says he need not come home at all then. Jim gives Martin some money, saying he wont have it be said that he turfed him out to starve. Jim then leaves.

Martin stays the night at Emmerdale Farm. Annie is becoming worried about Rosemary's future, and finds she is unwittingly likely to renew the friction between the Gimbels and the Sugdens. Matt helps Edward and Liz as they prepare to leave the village.

Annie has a serious talk to Martin and has doubts about her election as Church Warden. Edward gives Jim a talking to over his attitude to his family. Jim says how he does not like being told how to run a farm by his own son when Edward says you should listen to young people as they have a say in the world they are going to live in. Edward makes his final sermon in church.

Summer is now almost over at Emmerdale Farm, Annie tries to ease growing family concern about Rosemary's pending departure.

Rosemary's mother accepts Annie's offer to convalesce at Emmerdale Farm but there are unexpected consequences.

Rosemary gets a surprise when Sam puts right a long-standing family feud but her mother has other ideas.

Sam is sure Rosemary is going to leave the farm but he is not sure with whom.

Martin's surprising offer to help Rosemary stay in Beckindale seems to please no-one, especially Sam.

Rosemary's mother is set on leaving Emmerdale Farm soon but that is before Annie has her way.

Annie helps Rosemary realise that her treatment of Martin might not be what she intends.

Rosemary learns that Freda's invitation to Sunday tea is more than it seems.

Annie has doubts about Joe's holiday and Kathy gets ideas of her own.

For Joe and Kathy, the Seed Cut festivity brings back memories which decide their plans for a holiday.

It is two years since Jack's departure but Joe still feels he lives in his older brother's shadow.

For Joe and Annie - The Annual Beckindale Picnic does not hold out much promise.

Two strangers arrive in Beckindale. For reasons of their own, both want to reach Emmerdale Farm. Madge Semple's arrival shocks Sam.

Madge continues to make her presence felt at Emmerdale Farm. Hilda's aghast to discover her sister-in-law has shown her face in Beckindale again. Sam finds himself in a predicament when his dislike for Madge is tempered by her flattery. When Madge is out collecting some cabbages, Sam says she was married to Frank Semple 30 years ago but she left him for a Londoner who was only in the village for 2 days. Sam says Frank went to London to find her but was unsuccessful, and upon his return to Beckindale, he shut himself away, and later died. Hilda wants Madge thrown out of The Woolpack, but Henry and Amos refuse.

There are doubts concerning Bob Matthews plans for the church, but for Sam there can only be one decision.

Annie has a difficult decision to make when Sam gives his ultimatum to the Parish Council.

Sam's resolution is put to a further test as one by one his 'friends' desert him and he finds himself alone.

Madge says she has been contacted by the housing officers in London, telling her they have a new flat for her. She says she will be returning to London tomorrow so will not be a nuisance to Beckindale any more. Madge opens up to Annie about how she ran off with a man, Mickey, when she left Frank. Madge says Frank and his family went to London to look for her so they could duff her and Mickey up, but Mickey had some mates as well. Madge says things did not work out shortly after they had arrived in London, and Mickey left her, and she gave up on men after that. Meanwhile, Beckindale awaits Sam's decision - the future of their traditional Harvest Supper hangs in the balance. Madge attends The Harvest Supper that night. She makes peace with Hilda and says to her that she is going back to London in the morning. Madge enjoys her last night in Beckindale and dances on the stage. Everyone has fun at the Supper.

Henry reveals his Christmas plans but they get an unexpected reception at Emmerdale Farm. Matt bumps into an old friend, Sarah Foster, when they both discover a sheep lying in the middle of a country road. Local artist P.B. returns to The Woolpack to do some more painting.

Rosemary has her own reasons for not wanting to go home for Christmas. Annie berates Sam for having too many opinions and Matt becomes closer to married Sarah.

There is concern over Matt's interest in Sarah but it doesn't seem to bother him. P.B. adds some touches to The Woolpack mural. Sarah shows interest in renting stables at Hawthorn Cottage.

It looks like disappointment all round for everyone but Amos and The Woolpack come up with a festive surprise when Amos dresses up as Father Christmas and presents Henry with the gift of a new pub sign.

Sarah has doubts concerning the stables at Hawthorn Cottage - but only Matt knows why. Kathy is suspicious when she sees Joe and Rosemary together.

Sarah's decision about the stables surprises everyone except Annie and she tells Matt that she is returning to her husband. She then says to Amos that she is leaving tomorrow. It transpires that she is not married at all, and she just said she was. Meanwhile, the New Year Celebrations are about to take place in The Woolpack. Sarah has dropped the idea of renting the stables. Sarah and Matt have a talk and decide to call things off. Matt says to Sarah she can come back to Beckindale any times and Sarah says she may just take him up on that offer.
