Set in rural Sicily at the start of the 1900s, a determined young woman fights to shape her own life after a tragedy uproots her childhood. Taken in by a monastery and later drawn into aristocratic circles, she pushes against social limits through ambition, self-discovery, and a frank awakening to desire and independence.
